OUR COLORED SURI BREEDING PROGRAM
As at July 2011
SEE COLORED KIDS AT THE 2011 PPR SALE AND OPEN FARM
You see we are full time alpaca breeders. We have to pay bills. Color sells! white not so much.We are dedicated breeers of white because we know this is the way of the future. Walk into any respected fashion house. Look at the expensive lines. All you will see is dyed color, even the white and the black. Talk to the commercial mills. They want white. The manufacturers want it fine so its soft to the skin and has an elegant feel about it. The finer the more you get paid. The more of it you have the more you make. Density works.
But America is possessed with color. We love it too. But it is coarser it is a problem to dye and does not have predictability or breed true as you'd wish. We salute the attempt by breeders to satisfy the cottage market for fiber but thats not our gig. Too much stuffing around getting in the way of our passion. Breeding alpacas that will elite fleeces that will demand high returns commercially. Did you kow the white suri herd in the US has declined from 38% to 26%? Thats a crying shame.
Our color program is our way of funding our royal line of white suris which we have used to create magnificent color! It has to win in the show ring, it wins! Black through to fawn. It has to have genetic merit or it will not breed truly as you'd wish. We have combined the best of our highly repeatable white lines to the best colored lines like McGyver to produce prepotent heritable consistent genes. Have a look for yourself.
