Pucara Colored Herdsires

2011 COLORED OFFERINGS

It may be a suprise to other breeders but we have worked on our color for about five years. First of all we campaigned herdsires like Sirius Black and Wrangler. We also sought breedings to other colored stud males we thought highly of like East Rivers Durango, Chakotah's father. We won two National championships from those breedings to Durango who went to Australia! That is a huge loss to the US colored herd. We also used Captain Morgan from Wings and a Prayer, Grand Marnier and Rico from the famed Latah Creek herd. We also used Helios and Apache from the Pacific Crest program.

We infused some of our best whites with these coloreds to move toward what we have now. Its no secret to bring the extreme fleece quality of whites to bless the rich tones of the coloreds. Look at what our good friends at Snowmass Alpacas have done with their huacayas! They now have championship color in every color!

So the fact that some of our colored suris are now repeat champions and Judges Choice winners is a reflection of lots of work and patience. We are not sure anyone has noticed but just in case you are starting to we're serious about our color but it will never be to the detriment of breeding white fiber for high fashion but sure it will help fund that ideal.

Please peruse our colored herdsires below that are helping us lift our color profile. Click on their name
