MARCH"THRIVE" SEMINAR 06

Our second Thrive seminar was a blast. Much in the same vein as our January seminar this March group was a fun group of newbies and existing breeders who brought energy and fun to an intensive weekend of learning. We had people from as far away as Massachusetts, Ohio, New Mexico, California and Washington as well as a few hardy "locals". It was a nice mix of experience from absolutely fresh people researching the industry to old timers who were there for some invigoration and modification of goals. In all we seemed to share a comon interest of the love of the camelid species and a desire to improve them by smart breeding decisions based on science and not hype. And the learning experience transfers both ways. We learn a hell of a lot from these groups with the constant exchange of ideas and also how to run the seminar itself. And again we thank those that had the confidence buy breedings or animals from us. It's nice putting icing on the cake because after all this alpaca industry is our only source of income and we are so proud of the animals we have bred.

And of course I have to thank everyone for reminding me how old I was on my 54th birthday Sunday....the cake was yummy!

SOME COMMENTS

You guys did a great job with the seminar. I found the sections on breeding and marketing to be the most helpful. The information helped me understand that careful breeding, innovative marketing and great customers support are essential to my business. The whole weekend was very thought provoking and I'll be a better breeder because of it. I'd highly recommend your seminar to new breeders and anyone serious about thriving in this industry.

Dear Alan and Jude,   Thank you for sharing your knowledge about the alpaca industry through your "Thrive or Survive" seminar. The topics were presented professionally and with humor. This is the first time I've encountered breeders in the alpaca industry who understand and utilize breeding systems commonly used in most livestock industries worldwide. The superior alpacas grazing in your pastures is proof that this system works well.   I especially enjoyed the time spent in the barn with hands on alpaca and fiber judging. The gourmet food was unbelievable as is the venue of Pucara International! I highly recommend your seminar to both new and experienced alpaca breeders as well as people who are investigating becoming alpaca farmers.

I've been to seminars before but never learned as much in such an enjoyable atmosphere. Alan and Jude have that unique ability to both educate and entertain, which makes for a wonderful learning experience. Don't come unless you're prepared to have a good time and a willingness to become a better breeder...because both are guaranteed.
