PUCARA KAHUNA...HERE

AWE Show Portland Oregon,  April 2008

There is a good story to this show. After at first being reluctant to show because of Jude's judging we made the commitment in 2007 and had a good year. So by the first show in 2008 at the Alpaca Western Extravaganza in Portland Oregon we were keen to show off our show team especially the Get team from Kahuna. Oh boy, what a laugh. Jude came strutting down the aisle between the pens after going to put our production class teams in. She had a very sheepish look on her face. We were not allowed to put anything into the classes because we had not nominated that in our entry form. We were used to the AOBA Nationals system where you can enter on the day. It beats me why they have that rule because wouldn't the show organizers want as many entries as possible!! Anyway we had to wait until Sunday morning until we showed any of our animals. Despite missing the most important classes, the production classes, we still had a great show winning the White Male Championship and getting several ribbons...everybody got a ribbon! We were a little dissapointed with out two huacaya that only got fourths and a fifth but that is showing!

2008 Futurity, Lousiville, Kentucky, April 2008

The team headed straight off to the Futurity after the AWE show. A long drive for these hardy little animals. We were concerned because there had been a lot of diarrhea around at the shows but we managed to control any outbreaks we had. As per the previous show at AWE we only took some whites in the suris and didn't take any huacaya. We had a great show. The competition really is a step up with all the breeders from over East coming so getting ribbons was great. We did well with several firsts and the White male Championship...a different Kahuna son to the one that got the championship at AWE!!

It was fantatstic news that Puacara Kahuna had won Light Suri Herdsire of the Year. And it was only the second year his offspring have been shown by us!!!

2008 AOBA Nationals, Salt lake City, May 2008

Well, all we could say Thursday after the Production classes was WOW WOW WOW!! Does it get any better. The Kahuna kids had swept every class they entered. First second and third in Bred and Owned male, first in females. First in Breeders Best Three and First in Get of Sire. We always have joked with our good friends Jack and Kelly at Latah Creek Alpacas that we just wanted to be like them...that is win lots of ribbons...we got a taste of it at the Nationals...we were ecstatic.

Our crew also did really well in the halter classes with our little colored guys figuring in the ribbons ( they were just a few days into their classes) and our whites continued on their winning ways with White male Championship and the Reserve Championship in the female whites. It was close to our best show ever in Australia or the US and we feel very proud to get amongst the ribbons in a country which we believe has the best suris in the world outside of Peru. Our two huacaya boys that didn't do so well at AWE did great by getting seconds in big lineups. What a show!!!!
